Recovery is a drag

It's been a rough couple days since the marathon. Yes I finished! Race recap to come soon, I promise.  I arrived home from Little Rock exhausted from travel. How does sitting in a car for 9 hours tire you out so much... especially when I didn't even drive one mile.

The 26.2 run took more of a toll on my body than initially planned. My muscles have been pretty sore for the past three days - particularly my quads (why hello Little Rock hills).  In fact, I had a bit of a delayed soreness that my friend Kelli always speak of... the worst of pain hitting not the next day, but two days after a hard workout. I can't remember a time I was quite this sore following a race... and the weird thing is I didn't even try to "push it" during the Little Rock Marathon. It definitely gives me a lot to think about in the 52 days left before Eugene.

I planned to get out for an easy run last night with my Sole Sisters, but a couple catastrophes later, it didn't happen. Boo. I went to bed frustrated and grumpy... three days no running... AH!  So I set my alarm for 5am this morning. It's been awhile since I've done a sunrise run.  It was really tough dragging my butt out of a warm cozy bed into 25 degree cold.  I literally rolled out and threw on the nearest sweatshirt for a couple easy miles. Wake up my legs... and BREATHE.  3.5 miles later, I felt alive and fabulous. Even after years of running, I am occasionally reminded of how powerful a RUN can be in turning the tide of life.

I've been busting butt the past two days to get all the #JellyBean virtual race medals packed and shipped out... Just about everything has left the building, so watch your mailboxes! Remember, even if you didn't order a medal, you can still participate in the #JellyBean virtual race to be entered into the grand prize drawing. Always FREE participation here... My goal in hosting virtual races the past few years has always been just to encourage people to run.

Have a great day!

  1. Oh, my gosh, the restorative power of a run. I can't tell you how therapeutic running has been for me this year. After a rough day, it's nice to start the next day with a good early morning run, regardless of the miles. While I want to run MORE miles, I really want to enjoy the miles that I do run more. Run on, sister!

  2. if its any consolation, Eugene will be MUCH flatter than Little Rock, so hopefully it doesn't take its toll on your legs as much. I'm told Publix GA is HILLY, but it least its just the half

  3. Getting back in the swing after a marathon can be tricky with sore legs. I agree...there are days when a great run comes along just when I need it and I'm shocked and filled all at the same time! So excited for the Jelly Bean! I gave a link to it on my blog post today!

  5. After the Philly Marathon I was SOOOOOOO sore. WAY more sore than EXTREMELY hilly NYC the year before. I ran it on Sunday and Tuesday at work I was still hobbling PAINFULLY. I attributed it to my sitting in a car for two hours after the marathon. Have you ever traveled in a car after a marathon? Also, you're at 777 followers, LUCKY LADY! CONGRATS ON A MARATHON FINISH!!!

  8. Oh yes,it has some hills and that can totally mess you up. After a marathon the most challenging thing for me are stairs! I usually walk them down back wards :) Try a massage, that always helps me!
