Saturday Musings

I just realized that the reward dollars I earn with my Old Navy credit card can ALSO be used at Athleta!! Ever since Athleta rolled with their new Power to the She campaign, this advertisement has caught my eye... for that fun looking skirt.  Luckily, I had enough reward points saved up to make that cutie free!  Score!

Yesterday was an at-home workout.  I started off with the Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga DVD, followed by P90X Ab Ripper.  Have you ever done P90X?  My husband bought the entire program several years ago and I've dabbled around with it a little bit. The Ab Ripper is by far my favorite... 15 minutes of pure hell on your abs (and surprisingly your quads too!).  Try it out on Youtube: Part 1 and Part 2.

After the yoga and ab DVDs, I created my own circuit.  I wanted something that was high intensity, but quick and simple that I can work it at the park while the kids are on the playground. (This spring-like weather in Feb has me daydreaming of park playdates already!)  I quickly found myself sweating and out of breathe. Twice through and I was spent for the morning.  Give a try and let me know what you think!

My husband is finally home again (after a 2 week work trip), so I was laced up and waiting on the porch when he returned from work yesterday.  It was another warm day and I was anxious to get a run in before dark.  With my next half marathon just two weeks away, I'm kinda giddy with the paces that have come naturally in recent runs. My 5-6 mile runs have consistently been in the mid-9 range, which has never been my comfort zone.  It's got me thinking, "What's possible in a race with the adrenaline pumping??"  Especially Myrtle Beach, which is probably the flattest 13.1 I'll ever run.

What's your favorite brand name of running skirts?

Have you ever worked out with Tony Horton and the P90X series?

Do you do circuit workouts or just run?

  2. I love that running skirt too! I have done a couple of the P90X workouts and every one has been really tough for me - great workouts!

  3. I'm trying out Running Skirts triathlon skirt over compression shorts these days and kind of digging the lack of shorties underneath.

I've done P90X for real, twice. AbRipperX is a killer workout. I dropped the kenpo and plyo and ran instead when I did it.

And, I have my very own weight/abs circuit that MY trainer gave me yesterday. So excited to try it out next week.
Have a super weekend. Glad your husband is home. And, I can't wait to see what you accomplish at Myrtle Beach.

  5. Thanks!! I had no idea that you could use ON credits for Athleta! Awesome! I have found some really good stuff in the ON clearance to run in too.

  6. That skirt is adorable! I've never had much luck with running skirts though--they look so cute on other people, but I pretty much just stick to tempo shorts. :)

  7. I can't say I've ever worn a running skirt. But if I got one for free, I'd be willing to give it a try; just sayin'! I've done the P90X Yoga, but despite hearing tons of great things about the Ab Ripper video, I've never watched or done it. Might have to change that soon. Finally, I do circuit workouts 3 times a week. I do more Crossfit/plyometric style circuits for a mix of strength and alternative movement cardio, but I'd be willing to give your circuit a try. You'd have to explain what a "spiderman jack" is though.

  8. I am a lululemon running skirt fan. ALthough I have drooled over Athleta ones for years I just have never bought one. How are the little shorties underneath?

  9. I only have a sparkle skirt, but so far I have liked running in it.

I haven't done P90X yet, maybe someday I will try it. I do incorporate some circuit training, I do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, but I want to incorporate some more!

  10. It seems that I'm trying all the brands of running skirts! I love how they make me feel when I'm wearing them. I haven't tried the Athleta ones but my friend is dragging me to their store on Monday! I love their other stuff. (probably a bit too much!)

  12. I only own one running skirt, it's a Lululemon speedskirt and I love it. It's very feminine yet comfortable and practical. I actually reviewed it on my blog if you're curious. I always get a lot of comments on it. It's plain black but it has pleats in the back.

I have done P90x, never completed the full 90days but did get through quit a few. I do spin and yoga, I try to do arm circuits and abs also at least once a week.

  15. I first started with runningskirts.com, but now I love Lululemon. I haven't tried any from Athleta yet, but look like a good next purchase.

You are insane with those circuits, I need to remember you the next time I want to stop after one thing. Just think, what would Jess do?

  16. Love that workout, but not really into p90x. I really like Athleta but I hate that you can only buy their gear via magazine or online, I have a really difficult time determining my size and like to try on everything. My favorite brand is most likely Lululemon, but man that crap is so expensive. One of my girlfriends just told me that bloomingdales sells gear that is made by the same designer as lulu but it's half the price, haven't checked it out yet but hope to soon.

  17. I have never tried a running skirt but that one is SO pretty! I have the P90x series and Ab Ripper is crazy intense. My favorite workout is the Kenpo, just wish it wasn't so long.

  18. I love running skirts and celebrating the girl in me! For skirts, I love Skirt Sports and Brooks; fun designs and colors. But I am a bigger fan of running dresses; Nuu-Muu is a small company that makes these great versatile dresses that are great for runs, biking, or just lounging after a day with the kids. Hope this helps, have a great week!

  19. We also have the P90X DVD and it's TOUGH! We recently bought the Surpreme 90 Day,which is only $20 and so far really good. The workouts are shorter 30-40 minutes.
