We had a wonderful sunny morning in Peoria for the Jelly Bean kickoff.  Over 40 runners came out to run with me... and eat jelly beans.  It was a super fun morning and neat to see some new faces. Running is contagious...

See all the photos from the Peoria Jelly Bean race here.

I headed out on my bike early to measure the distance and stake signs at the turnaround points for the 5k and 10k.  While doing so, I got distracted by a big dog and took my first digger on the bike.  Geesh, how embarrassing!  Here's my little bicycle boo-boo...

I started off the Jelly Bean 5k chatting with my friend KO who ran a half-marathon yesterday.  My legs were still a little sore from Friday night's long run, so I wasn't exactly sure how I was going to run today.  As we moved down the paved trail, I felt good, then better. I picked up the pace so that I was working. There were a couple challenging hills in the middle, but a nice straightaway for the last mile.  The run felt difficult and fun all at once.  I ended with 3.2 miles in exactly 27:00 minutes.  That's an 8:26 pace, which is pretty darn good for me.  It fact it beats my standing PR from last spring. I have definitely found speed in the past year... I think I need to register for a flat 5k and blow that old PR up!

Good Luck this week with your Jelly Bean runs!
Lots of runners already reporting in today.

  1. Looks like a great run! If I was paying attention I would've done this today. I ran, but only for 2.7 miles :/ One day this week I'll remember.

Congrats on your unofficial PR :) You definitely need to find a 5K and blow your old PR out of the water!

  14. Bummer about the bike spill! But at least you had a killer 5k time to make up for it :) Ran my Jelly Bean 10k yesterday and hope to fit in a 5k tomorrow. Such fun!

  18. Jess,

I have tried 2 times to email my Jelly Bean photos to runwithjess@comcast.net and both times I have had the email come back to me. I entered my times on the spreadsheet with no trouble but I can't submit my pictures. Any other ideas?
