Race Recap: Beach Palooza 5K

This is most FUN you will ever have at a race... guaranteed!  In fact, you'll probably forget it's even a race. After we ran the Beach Palooza obstacle race in Daytona Beach last year, we eagerly encouraged all our friends to join us for the Chicago one this summer.  Thankfully we had takers!  Six adults and no kids, our day on the beach was incredibly fun!

Words can't do it justice, so enjoy the story in pictures...

Hubby and I ready to race.

Goofing around, waiting for our 11:30 am start.  There were a total of 6 waves, every half hour.

The 5K started on Montrose Beach and then we climbed up boulders into the nearby park.

Our friends making their way across these tricky ladders.

Hubby's balancing act on the teetering slopes.

Me coming through what we dubbed the "car wash"

My friend Katie & I after the Water Noodle Forest.

The Giant Beach Ball maze, followed by an Artic Plunge before the finish!

After the Finish Line, we jumped into Lake Michigan to cool off.  I love this picture with the Chicago skyline in the background!

And then enjoyed the free beer at the exceptional beach party!

And mingled with the natives...
Hey look - it's Fred Flintstone & the Gang!

And who doesn't like half-naked men on the beach?!

DID I CONVINCE YOU YET?
Check out the Beach Palooza website here.  They host numerous races around the country.  It's totally worth the travel for this kind of racing fun!  And the event is organized wonderfully by Red Frog Events.

Now what could top a day like that?
I did 18.3 miles this morning!
Enjoy summer, but never taking my eyes off the Marathon.

  4. Um this looks like it was amazing...seriously this was just a hop, skip, and a jump away from my house and I didn't even know about it!
Yikes for running at 11:30, ick. That was probably brutal, but the lake is the best way to cool off on a hot day...especially when you are fully clothed.

I envy you for waking at the crack of dawn for 18+ miles!
