Runner on a diet

Everyone always assumes you lose a bunch of weight while training.  With all that running, how can you not shrink, right?!  Unfortunately, that has not been the case for me.  I have to watch everything I put into my mouth in order to shed the pounds.  When training, it seems I'm more hungry than ever.  Not a good combination.  However, I am determined to get down to 145 before my training this summer for the Rock 'n Roll Marathon - St. Louis.

My exercise burn is spot-on.  Time to get the eating under control.  So yesterday I did some kitchen cleaning (again!)  Unhealthy leftovers were dumped. Perfectly good cupcakes found a home in the garbage.

After a trip to the store, we stocked up on foods to make healthy meals and snacks.  Thankfully, my husband was eager to "reset" with me as well.  Back on the healthy train.  Choo-choo!

And when I get on that healthy kick, even my kids' meals get a makeover.  Thankfully, I do not have picky eaters.  Pride literally shivered through me when the first thing they both grabbed was the broccoli... and then asked for more!  :)

I spent the evening watching Biggest Loser, making out meals plans for the week, and entered my day into My Fitness Pal website.  It's a good day when you burned more calories than you ate!  Great start to "The Reset."

This morning I began with an incredibly yummy oatmeal concoction (fuel to start up the metabolism!) with bananas, strawberries, raisins, walnuts, and dates.

Today's workout was a 45 min Spinning class, followed by 25 min weight circuit, and 10 min on the Endless Rope.  Today I feel GREAT! (Thanks bloggy-friends for all the kind words yesterday when I was so frustrated.)

Up Next (Thursday):  TEMPO - 2m warmup, 5m tempo run at mid-tempo pace (9:30), 1m cooldown.

When you make a serious effort to lower your weight, is it a family affair?
...or are you stuck with a Lean Cuisine while the rest of the family chows on lasagna?

  1. I'm trying to get to 145, too! I keep bouncing between 155 and 158. Boo.

  2. I can totally relate! My trainer let me down easy when I mentioned my goals for the coming spring/summer.. 1. run my first half marathon and 2. lose the last 15 lbs. Haha "It's hard to lose while distance training because you have to fuel your body so much more." Suhweeet! Not. I want to prove this wrong. I am trying SO hard daily to lose even a pound between now and my half (a month away). It would be SO hard for me to throw away perfectly good little cupcakes because man am I sucker for those things. BUT I totally understand. Good luck!!

My family all eats the same healthy food. I do get a few treats for the kids to have once in a while though. But dinners/lunches everyone eats the same meal. And last night I was majorly bummed after my run to find that my son had eaten ALL the greenbeans and left me none. I had to trade for a salad. LOL

  3. Losing weight is not a family affair. I married a naturally skinny man who can eat anything. Although he is very supporitive and will eat what I make for dinner. Typcially I just use protion control and add a startch for him and my daughter and extra veggies for me. :) One of my favorite things to do is make a huge crockpot of something delish and then have it for lunch a few days of the week. Makes it easier to stay on track.

  4. My husband can eat anything he wants and not gain weight. He actually tries to gain weight! Boo hiss! My family and I are basically eating the same things, but my son IS a picky eater so it's hard to experiment with different veggies and things. I just try and promote portion control for everyone and make healthy foods. We occasionally all have lasagna, but I have hidden the fettucine alfredo recipe!

Those are awesome kid lunches; my son wouldn't touch broccoli. Sniff sniff.

  5. I'm in an interesting battle--I prefer more plant-based foods and all around healthier options, whereas the fiance? Not so much. We're learning how to compromise, but mostly it has been me taking a smaller portion of whatever the main dish is and then having a giant salad on the side.
Good luck with your reset! :)
